Coronavirus Prevention
The Coronavirus has recently hit Australian shores with 10 people currently affected by this virus. We are not in an outbreak yet- so no need to panic. Our team has been on the receiving end of many questions on what you can do to reduce your risk of contracting the virus and we wanted to share these tips with you. One of the key defences that we have against infection is keeping your hands clean. Washing them as often as you can and scrubbing your hands back and front with plenty of soapy water for at least 15 seconds before rinsing. or using an effective hand sanitiser multiple times a day. These practises can prevent the virus from transmitting from your hands to your mouth by touch.
Mushroom - The Immune Powerhouse
The Chaga mushroom is like a booster shot to your immune system. This mushroom has been shown in animal studies to increase immune cells known as interleukin-6 and T lymphocytes. These cells in the human body help to ensure that your immune system is fighting off bacteria and viruses. The Reishi Mushroom is used to improve the immune system via its beta-glucans and polysaccharides. It has been shown in a study to improve lymphocyte production which helps fight against infections and cancer.
The true benefits of Back to Basic - Vitamin C and Zinc
Vitamin C is the first nutrient most people turn to when they are sick, but by then its too late. In 1999 Vitamin C was shown in a study to be more effective in preventing colds and the flu as opposed to treating it. The recommended daily intake for Vitamin C is 1000mg if you are looking to support your immune system. If in the event you do fall ill with a virus or cold, Zinc is your friend for reducing the longevity and severity of your illness. Meaning, you get better, faster!
Oregano Oil
Oregano oil has been traditionally used for its antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Recent studies to try and understand the way it works have shown that against a virus it can be effective at inactivating the virus and it’s RNA. It can be taken in oil form – a few drops in water or via capsule as a preventative or when you already have a virus.
Vitamins and Mineral Rich Food
It’s important to pay attention to what you eat. ‘Food as medicine’ means the food you consume can be used as a medicine too. High fibre foods support your gut where 70% of your immune system lies. Keeping your bowel moving keeps your elimination pathway moving, helping you to excrete any waste – just like the plumbing in your house. Keeping hydrated helps your cells to do their job in defending you and helping you recover in the event you do become ill.
