It's Time To Cleanse - Keep your gut on track this Spring!

It's time to look after your gut health this Spring! The gut (gastrointestinal tract) is made up of seven key organs. These include the gall bladder, large intestine, liver, oesophagus, pancreas, small intestine and stomach. Each of these organs have unique functions and characteristics and are the foundation of your wellbeing, so it makes sense to look after them! ¹ Our gut microbiome consists of trillions of bacteria and other microorganisms which live in your digestive system and enhances the optimal functioning of your digestion, metabolism, immunity and brain. ²

Certain foods and healthy lifestyle habits can improve your gut health. Here are a few tips for you to try: ³

  • Eat fibre-rich and probiotic foods

  • Exercise regularly

  • Limit your alcohol intake

  • Reduce stress levels

  • Get enough sleep

Probiotics provide the good bacteria needed for a healthy digestive system. Our digestive system is made up of good and bad bacteria. Good bacteria aids in food breakdown and helps produce the necessary nutrients needed for our bodies, they also help keep the growth of bad bacteria under control. ²

Many of us know probiotics are the superheroes of your gut health and your best defence against harmful gut bugs and invaders. But did you know that as well as being strong in their ability to protect the gut, they also benefit and support healthy immunity? ⁴

As the majority of immune system is found in your gut, this means you can modulate and support your immune system through your gut health.

Did you know that large, undigested food molecules can irritate and inflame the cells that line our digestive tract? This might happen if we regularly eat foods that don’t agree with us, or that we can’t properly break down. This leads to unpleasant symptoms and potential health problems. Over time, this can be damaging, causing the cells that line our gut to become ‘leaky’. A leaky gut sets the scene for ongoing inflammation and worsening of food sensitivities. It can also trigger the immune system to become over-reactive which can lead to other health problems. ⁵
