Milk thistle supports healthy liver function
Milk thistle supports the health of the liver and its natural detoxification processes. Additionally, it has antioxidant properties to help reduce the formation of free radicals, which are naturally generated by the body’s detoxification mechanisms, as well as by other aspects of metabolism and via exposure to pollution.
Milk thistle has a long history of use in Western herbal medicine, where it’s traditionally regarded as a liver-protective tonic and is taken to relieve indigestion symptoms, support healthy gallbladder function (including the healthy flow of bile) to aid the digestion of fatty foods.
Qi and sluggish liver function in TCM
In TCM, the liver is traditionally believed to govern the smooth flow of qi (life force energy) and blood around the body.
Citrus peel is traditionally used in TCM to regulate the flow of qi and stimulate its movement if it becomes sluggish or stagnant (for example due to emotional overwhelm or a poor diet), and is also traditionally used to support the liver's natural detoxification processes.
When liver qi is stagnant (called liver qi stasis pattern), bupleurum is traditionally taken to support healthy gallbladder function and bile secretion/flow, and relieve the irritability and irregular menstrual cycles that may arise.
Citrus peel is also traditionally used in Chinese medicine to help relieve indigestion symptoms such as excessive burping, poor appetite and abdominal bloating.
Heat in the liver in TCM
According to TCM philosophy, a stagnant liver generates heat in the body (called an internal heat pattern, sometimes accompanied by dampness), which can compromise its ability to perform its detoxification or purification functions. When this occurs, baical skullcap is traditionally taken in Chinese medicine to clear excess heat from the body (including damp-heat from the liver and heat from the gallbladder) and support the body’s natural detoxification processes in patterns of internal heat.
Goji berries and schisandra
Schisandra is traditionally used to support liver health in TCM, and goji berries are traditionally taken to strengthen the liver (in a pattern called liver yin deficiency) in TCM.

Each tablet contains herbal extracts dry concentrate: Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) seed 100mg, min. dry equiv. 6g std. to silymarin 50mg Goji berry (Lycium barbarum) fruit 200mg, dry equiv. 1g Citrus peel (Citrus reticulata) fruit peel 100mg, dry equiv. 500mg Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) fruit 100mg, dry equiv. 500mg Baical skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) root 100mg, dry equiv. 500mg Bupleurum (Bupleurum falcatum) root 50mg, dry equiv. 500mg Asian dandelion (Taraxacum mongolicum) whole plant 100mg, dry equiv. 500mg Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. No added artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners or preservatives, gluten, wheat, nuts, dairy or animal products.
Directions
Recommended dosage: Adults: Take 2 tablets three times a day, or as professionally prescribed.
